○Regarding Landslides and Slope Failures

     Given that Prout Villages in Japan will often be located in mountainous areas, we must consider the construction locations of houses and roads with potential landslides in mind. Landslides, cliff collapses, and soil erosion are also known as slope failures. These are prone to occur due to heavy rain and earthquakes. Therefore, fields susceptible to slope failure effects should be established at the foot of mountains, while roads and residences should be built at a safe distance from slopes.



    Areas susceptible to slope failure due to heavy rain include those where the slope's incline is over 30 degrees, places where the incline suddenly becomes steeper midway up a slope that's over 5m high, concave (valley-type) slopes, and slopes with a large, gently inclined area above. The last two points are terrain conditions where a large amount of water tends to gather.

    Predicting when and where a landslide will occur is difficult. However, when a collapse does occur, the distance from the edge of the cliff to the tip of the sediment is generally within the same range as the height of the cliff. However, if there is an incline to the ground, it can reach even further. There's not much lateral spread of the sediment.
