Self-reliant housing 1/2

Nuclear power plants lead to catastrophe, and fossil fuels will eventually run out. The basic energy source for Prout Village will be solar power, small hydroelectric power, and storage batteries. The entire roof of the dwelling will be used for solar power generation, which will increase the amount of electricity generated. This will be combined with energy-saving home appliances and insulation to lower the amount of electricity consumed inside the dwelling. In this way, it will be possible to live solely on natural energy.

Many Japanese houses have poor insulation, so no matter how much they are heated in winter, heat is lost and condensation forms on the windows. Continuing to heat in this condition is a waste of electricity. For this reason, the building is insulated externally with a series of heat insulators installed on the outside to prevent heat from escaping. By adding double-glazing and 24-hour mechanical ventilation, we can use air conditioning and heating 24 hours a day, both in summer and winter, while reducing the amount of electricity needed.

In addition to self-generated electricity and highly insulated housing, the problem of domestic wastewater must be solved in order to build self-sustaining housing in harmony with nature. The main wastewater from households comes from washing machines, kitchens, bathrooms, and toilets, but the basic idea is to return all wastewater to farmland. To achieve this, we use a natural osmosis drainage system that allows water to seep into the ground through a hole next to the house. To put it simply, the holes are filled with gravel or sand and the wastewater seeps into the ground.

In this case, it is necessary to use non-polluting detergents, soaps, and toothpastes. Soaps and shampoos made with essential oils are completely decomposed after being drained, as they do not contain petroleum-based materials or chemicals. Disinfecting ethanol can also be used. It has disinfectant properties that can reduce the growth of bacteria on the skin surface and reduce body odor in the armpits, pubic area, and feet. Since ethanol is a natural resource made from plants such as sugar cane, it can be returned directly to farmland and can be cultivated systematically.

Boiling water over 70 degrees Celsius can also be used for dishes and clothes. Boiling water also has sterilizing and oil-removing properties, and removes both stains and odors. Afterwards, use a natural detergent.
