The islands of Haida Kwai

The Haida people live in the Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands), which consists of about 150 large and small islands on the western coast of Canada.

Legend has it that when ravens took off from the primordial sea, their splashes spawned these islands. Here, too, we can see similarities with the creation myths of various places called the "Primitive Sea." In many cases, a god appears from there and creates heaven and earth, but in the Haida people, ravens are said to have created the islands.
